{"id":55544,"date":"2020-08-29T16:56:54","date_gmt":"2020-08-29T16:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wordpress_X\/index.php\/2020\/08\/29\/kristoffersson-clean-sweeps-kouvola\/"},"modified":"2020-08-29T16:56:54","modified_gmt":"2020-08-29T16:56:54","slug":"kristoffersson-clean-sweeps-kouvola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/insideracing.com\/kristoffersson-clean-sweeps-kouvola\/","title":{"rendered":"Kristoffersson clean sweeps Kouvola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Sweden\u2019s Johan Kristoffersson claimed a coveted clean sweep in round three of the World Rallycross Championship, at the World RX of Finland, winning every session to extend his Drivers\u2019 Championship lead today.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Kristoffersson Motorsport\u2019s driver was TQ (top qualifier) in the Intermediate Classification, won semi-final one and the final to secure his second win of the season \u2013 following victory in round on at Holjes in Sweden last weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Finland\u2019s Juha Rytkonen was a star performer, racing a Hyundai i20 Supercar for the GRX SET team. He was fourth in qualifying, won semi-final two and finished second in the final, one place ahead of Sweden\u2019s Timmy Hansen, the reigning World RX Drivers\u2019 Champion fighting back from a difficult opening to the season a week ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Hansen didn\u2019t have the pace to match Kristoffersson or Rytkonen at the front of the six-lap final on the Kouvola circuit, but claimed the final podium position in a race for the finish line with Finnish star Niclas Gronholm. Competing at home for GRX Taneco, Gronholm finished fourth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-55542\" src=\"https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wordpress_X\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race.jpg\" alt=\"World RX of Finland Race\" width=\"1200\" height=\"798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/insideracing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/World_RX_of_Finland_Race-450x299.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Germany\u2019s Timo Scheider, the ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport driver, was fifth and Team Hansen\u2019s Kevin Hansen, from Sweden, made the final following an opportunistic overtake on lap one of the semi-final two and finished the final sixth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Kristoffersson\u2019s 22nd career victory was accompanied by winning round three of the new-for-2020 Champion Fast Start Award. \u201cThe final was very, very good. I had a very good start, like I had all day and from there on, the track was similar to how it was in the semi-final, so we could adapt a bit and do some small changes for the final which worked out well.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;I have to thank the team today, we did a lot of work and put a lot of effort into this weekend, especially having only one car on a new track to learn. It\u2019s been quite tricky but it feels very nice to win practice, Q1, Q2, Q3, my semi-final and final today,\u201d said Kristofferson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Rytkonen\u2019s second place marked the first podium of the season for a Gronholm RX Hyundai i20. \u201cI\u2019m really happy. The team is very, very good. I did not expect this at all. I just kept pushing in the final, I had Topi [Toomas Heikkinen] on the radio giving me information and he is very good, that helps a lot,\u201d said Rytkonen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Despite not making it into the final in round three, Mattias Ekstrom remains second in the Drivers\u2019 standings, with the Hansen brothers tied in third. Timmy Hansen was delighted to his first podium of the season at Kouvola. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt was a hard final, I came out in third and from there it was a race of pace. When Rytkonen took the joker I knew that we were racing for position. Dad was pushing me so hard on the radio, especially the two last laps was absolutely everything I could give.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;It wasn\u2019t enough for more than third today but I\u2019m happy for this. It\u2019s a huge step from Holjes in Sweden last weekend when we didn\u2019t really know what was going on and Kevin claimed a P2, but we were a bit off the pace. After all the work we\u2019ve done this week to be rewarded with a podium feels incredible,\u201d said Hansen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">First reserve for the final was Monster Energy RX Cartel\u2019s Andreas Bakkerud, from Norway, who was third in Q2 and just missed a place in the final with fourth in semi-final one in the Renault Megane. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Finland\u2019s Jere Kalliokoski returned to World RX in a Ford Fiesta and was fourth in semi-final two, in front of both KYB Team JC drivers. Sweden\u2019s Robin Larsson was classified fifth but retired with a front puncture on his Audi S1. Ekstrom qualified on pole position but retired from the race on the second lap.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> GRX Taneco\u2019s Timur Timerzyanov, from Russia, and GCK Bilstein\u2019s Anton Marklund, from Sweden, were fourth and fifth in semi-final one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Hungary\u2019s Tamas Karai was 13th in the Intermediate Classification on his first World RX start of the season, after racing in the European Rallycross Championship at Holjes-Sweden. France\u2019s Guerlain Chicherit was highest placed of the Unkorrupted drivers in the team\u2019s Renault Clios, with Netherland\u2019s Kevin Abbring 18th on his debut with the team. Finland\u2019s Jani Paasonen took 15th in his home event for Ferratum Team. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport\u2019s Rene Muennich was 16th, Monster Energy GCK RX Cartel\u2019s Liam Doran again showed good pace but had a disappointing round and was 17th.
